Joseph Egwuatu holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and an MBA (Finance) from the University of Lagos, with 34 years’ work experience, most of which were in the banking industry.
He is a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI) and an Honorary Senior Member (HCIB) of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. He is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School and INSEAD, Singapore.
He worked in Citibank Nigeria before joining Diamond Bank, where he worked in several departments, with his last role being the Group Head, Internal Control and Compliance. In October 2007, he joined the United Bank for Africa Plc as the Divisional Head, Corporate Audit and Compliance of the UBA Retail Financial Services.
In May 2008, he moved over to Access Bank Plc as the Head, Central Processing and Head Office Control and later became the Head, Payments, Collections and Loans Unit of the Bank. He left Access Bank in April 2014 to run his private accounting firm, Joe Egwuatu & Co. (A firm of Chartered Accountants and Tax Practitioners) until August 2019 when he joined the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) as the Head, Internal Audit, and was subsequently appointed to handle other responsibilities such as Head, Revenue Assurance and Head, Revenue Recovery Group (South), the position he held before assuming the current position as Head, Commercial, in charge of Abia/Ebonyi Region.
Joseph has core skills and cognate leadership experience in Internal Control, Compliance, Internal Audit, Governance, Corporate ethics and conduct, Operations, Process Re-engineering, Change Management, Risk Management, Payments and Collections, Business Development, Performance Management, Procurement, Fleet, Logistics/Facilities Management and Classified/Restructured Accounts Management and Recoveries.
He has attended numerous training courses both locally and overseas. He is a member of the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938.
